You can add additional categories to calendars in the Govstack Events application. Additional categories make calendar events easier to filter, give website visitors the ability to subscribe to more specific information, and let you target the calendar feed component more precisely.

Adding Categories
To add a calendar category to the Govstack Events application follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Govstack Events back office. You can do this by either by selecting the Events tile in your Govstack dashboard, or by adding /management to the root URL for your calendar (e.g. https://events-training-cms.govstack.com/management). You may be asked to login to the application
- Select the 'Configuration' tab at the top of the interface. To access the 'Configuration' tab you will need administration permission for the events tool. You will need to contact your calendar administrator for assistance if you don't have this level of permission
- Select the 'Field Sets' option at the left of the interface
- In the 'Search Results' list locate the calendar you want to modify and select the pencil icon to the right of its entry. This will open the 'Update Field Set' dialogue
- In the list of form fields locate the 'Category' entry and select the hamburger menu icon (a series of stacked lines) above the field. This will open the list of field values
- Select the 'Add Field Value' icon to the right of any category entry. The 'Add Field Value' dialogue will open. The new category will appear below the selected entry in the list. However, this position can be edited during the creation process
- In the 'Insert After' field select where the new category will appear in your list. We recommend keeping your list in alphabetical order for best results
- Enter the name of your new category in the 'Name' field
- Enter a hexadecimal color code in the 'Colour' field. If you place your cursor in the field a gradient color picker will appear at the bottom of the page. You can select a color from the gradient field if you don't have a code. This color appears as a highlight next to events in the calendar grid to help define them from other entries
- If the public can post to this category select the 'Allow Public to Post (Only if Calendar Allows Public to Post)' checkbox. For this option to function the calendar must have 'Allow Public to Post' enabled in the calendar list as well
- The 'Only Show If ...' and 'Has Default Values ...' can be ignored when creating categories
- Select 'Save' to complete the process
Categories added to calendars will automatically be added to calendar filters, subscription options, and the 'Submit an Event' dialogue. They will also become available filter options in the calendar feed component.
