Govstack lets you create menu links to outside websites or other nodes in your content tree.
Menu menu links will appear in your website main navigation, sitemap, subpage listings, sub navigation, and the sitemap component.
Add a menu link
To create a menu link, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the 'Content' section in Govstack’s back office. Your user account will need permission to create new nodes.
- Right click the parent node that will contain your menu link. Note that you can now create menu links under the 'Home' node. In previous versions they needed to be nested at least one menu level down.
- Select 'Create'
- Select 'Menu Link'
- At the top of the new page, in the 'Enter a name' field, add the name of the menu link. This will be the label that appears in the main and sub navigation menu.
- Enter the target URL for the external web site, including the http: or https:
- Set the 'Open in New Tab' slider as required
- If your menu link appears in a Subpage Listing component open the 'Summary' tab at the top of the interface and add a summary. The heading will pull automatically from the name of the menu link, but can be overridden by entering a value. Summary images are optional
- Select 'Save and Publish' to complete the process
Pro tip: When to use menu links
We recommend using menu links sparingly in your website menu. This can be a jarring experience for users as they don't expect to leave your website when they select a menu option. You can use an menu link when linking to:
- An online form
- An event calendar
- A clone page
- A partner website (e.g., Library site, Tourism site, Economic Development site, etc.)
